Thanks for sharing. Been trying to get my wife to get onboard with chicken rearing. We have over an acre of land in a rural setting but she is still a no go. Might just do it anyway and see how it goes. I want eggs, meat, and poop. How bout that not so sure about the meat part but the eggs and poop are a plus. I compost a lot of leaves and table scraps. I have several raised beds for planting. Right now I have cabbage collards onions and lettuce in. I live in Pensacola so we do have a somewhat mild winter. so far so good. Keep up the good work.
I’m looking for days to get this theme of wordpress. I only find the versions with hasn’t got the custom header picture. Could you please send me an email with this theme? Johan_nl@hotmail.com
Thank you,
Johan

Hi Julie!
Finally had a moment off the trail to check this out – cool and beautiful! I love it -and love reading about your creative endeavors in gardening, cooking, chicken raising and line drying.
Back on the trail tomorrow -be well!
Carla
I think I read somewhere that marigolds can be planted as a border on a garden to minimize pests – I guess they’re stinky to insects. I’ve killed two cactuses this year, though, so don’t take my word for it.
My mom has been pretty successful with her organic garden – I’ll put the two of you in touch.
Wow Julie, I don’t know where you got the inspiration to raise chicks or become a gardner, as I remember it we lived in the city while you were growing up.
I love all the pictures and your description of what you are going through.
Wow. I can’t even keep a cactus alive. Although so far my daughter has survived for 7 weeks, so I guess anything is possible. Very impressive. Wanna come to the Riv and fix up my back yard? But we only want to grow one crop here… don’t worry, we have a prescription!!!

To Julie – you are an inspiration! As a gardener and a writer. And a builder of chicken coops and rain barrels. And a friend.
To Calcasieu – you haven’t written lately. How are you? How’s that first egg coming? You still into pecking?
Love,
Mer
